{Saturday, November 17, 2007}   advice? to send or not to send??

I haven’t taken action by sending the following to my HR department yet, but I am considering doing so.  Please leave me some feedback on what u think as far as if it sounds professional, makes sense, etc?  Should I send, or let it go?

I’ve debated much this weekend about the following e-mail, which is rather disconcerting being that I am away on vacation.  Last Thursday it was made clear to me that discrimination and segregation may be occurring at this company.  The event upon which these issues were brought to my attention is minor, but the issues are not.  We in the art ‘production room’ have been informed we can no longer sit at our desks unless reading or keeping to ourselves during our 10 min breaks.  The reasons, as I understand them, are as follows.  One, when others walk into the room and see us talking they don’t know we’re on break and think were just not working.  Two, which is more reasonable, so we don’t disrupt others working around us- even though we all have the same scheduled 10-minute breaks.  Some people go outside, as they always have, and everyone else wanting to socialize has the break room.  A co-worker and I have been going into the break room nearest our office, I mean room, which to my understanding has been forbidden to us.  This is where in lie my concerns.  I feel we are being discriminated against by being labeled part of ‘production’, rather than the office, and thus are being segregated into a separate break room.  It has been brought to my attention the said room is used for visiting clients.  I agree the company should provide a designated room for customers and clients, but I do not see the harm in using the room when none are even present in the building, especially since a handful of employees are already privileged enough to use this room during any break they choose.  The few instances I’ve used the room it has been occupied by one other person if not completely empty.  The room in question should be used strictly for clients, or the break room deemed for our use should be brought up to par in accordance.  It would be nice to have access to a sink or two, along with another refrigerator or two so we do not have to struggle to find available space in the mornings, and the room should be kept much cleaner.  I find it very disconcerting that issues such as discrimination and segregation are even in question and would like to work towards eliminating such prejudices.

I believe you may have a valid case.

i’ve decided i dont really care if i have a case or not. i didn’t end up sending this, but no matter what i know what happened that day felt wrong, and that proof enough for me that something just isn’t right.
